All The Pretty Girls of Gorey I dreamed I saw an angel in the middle of the road She looked on me in sorrow, as if she saw my soul Her skin was alabaster, her hair a fiery red With emerald eyes she called me, but my feet had turned to lead Sing me a new song when you open up the ground Gone will be the soul of me when you lay my body down Sing me a new song, a song that makes you brave And all the pretty girls of Gorey will dance upon my grave She stretched her hand to take me and said “your time is nigh Now gather up your courage and bid this world goodbye And walk among the voices that whisper in the wind And weave between the ages as the light of earth grows dim” Sing me a new song when you open up the ground Gone will be the soul of me when you lay my body down Sing me a new song, a song that makes you brave And all the pretty girls of Gorey will dance upon my grave

Each Moment 03:52
Each Moment Living each moment in early morning rain Take in the sunrise hearing birds again Holding each moment in patient caring hands Life is what happens when we're busy making plans Being each moment no matter where we are Breathe in the pauses, healing painful scars Holding each moment in patient caring hands Life is what happens when we're busy making plans Loving each moment in laughter and tears A kindly word spoken can make a smile appear Holding each moment in patient caring hands Life is what happens when we're busy making plans Nowhere to be, nothing to do, no agenda to fulfill Just living, holding, being, loving Life is better still

about

This digital 45 consists of two original songs co-written in Gorey, Ireland at a Mercyland songwriting event hosted by Phil Madeira (Emmylou Harris' Red Dirt Boys, The Ascendants, Phil Keaggy Band and so much more) and Sammy Horner (The Electrics, Sweet Sorrows and more). It includes the two vocal versions as well as the instrumental backing tracks to each song. I'm very proud of theses songs and how they turned out. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as we did writing and recording them.

about

Mark Hootman Washington, Illinois

I have been enjoying and playing music for most of my life. In retirement from social work, I have taken more time to cultivate my photography and music interests. Writing, alone and with others, playing, recording and stretching as an artist have become a great joy for me. I hope to add some joy and beauty into the world as well as write honestly about issues like life, faith, loss and more. ... more
